Roads are reopen and police barricades are being removed in suburban Oak Park and River Forest after an 18-hour police standoff with an armed individual has to be resolved, officials said. Around 5:25 a.m. Friday, video from the scene showed officials placing an individual into an ambulance and removing police tape from the apartment building where the incident took place. According to a 5:20 a.m. update from officials, the incident was resolved with “no injuries” when the individual “surrendered and was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.” The incident began when an “individual in distress” was reported at around 11 a.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of North Harlem Avenue in Oak Park, police said. Officials later Thursday said the individual was “armed and barricaded” inside of his apartment, but did not offer any further details. The incident stretched overnight and into early Friday as officials said the individual was still barricaded. Police remained on the scene, and traffic-impacting road closures and police barricades were still in place. The barricades and road closures were removed later Friday morning as the scene resolved and the individual was placed into an ambulance.
